Turnovers from Lavergne lead to a big 28-7 Smyrna win
By: DC Woodmore
High school football kicked off last night with a great AAA District 7 match up with the Bulldogs of Smyrna High School vs the Wolverines of Lavergne High School. This game was quickly taken over by senior defensive back DJ Williams. Williams with an offer already from Army and the rest of his Bulldog teammates came to play with a impressive defense display and a mix of great offensive plays led by sophomore quarterback John Turner. Williams has been training this off season putting in work to develop his game defensively and honestly you could tell. “Primetime” was on display at Robert L. Rakes Stadium with 3 tackles, the tri-fecta with the pick six, two touchdowns one also offensively on a pass-catch reception.
I Spoke with one of Nashville’s top high school trainer’s Riley Howard III, he says DJ had been working very hard this summer with team workout’s and training year round to develop his skill-set.
When the clock hit zero at the end of the ball game Smyrna had put up 28 points to Lavergne’s 7 points thanks to the sole rushing touchdown by Maliek Gray. It’s very early in the season and there is too much football left to play to write any teams off yet. Can Lavernge bounce back next week versus Wilson Central to go 1-1 on the season? Can Smyrna travel to Cane Ridge and go 2-0 with a win against the Ravens? Check back with us on next week for up to minute scores at @d1highlights on twitter.
