Tobi Kilgore named Knox Powell head coach
Tobi Kilgore has been named the new head football coach at Powell high school.
Kilgore, 27, who served as Knoxville Central defensive coordinator the last couple of seasons replaces Derek Rang who resigned last month.
“I am overly excited about the opportunity I have here at Powell High School. This is an amazing school that has unbelievable community support,” Kilgore said
“Coach Kilgore has the leadership, dedication, and experience to continue the proud tradition of the Powell Football program,” Powell Athletic Director Jamie Cantrill said via an email statement.
“His coaching philosophy and core values are consistent with our vision for the program. We welcome him and his wife to the Powell family and look forward to working with him this upcoming season.”
Powell is coming off a trip to the Class 5A Semifinals and a 12-2 record in Rang’s only season as head coach.
Kilgore is a 2003 Halls graduate and started his coaching career there as coached at Halls for six seasons before moving on to Central.
It had been quite an offseason at Powell
as Rang was put on suspension with pay from the Knox County school system since December because of allegations of testing irregularities.
Kilgore will take over a program that has a 37-4 record the past three seasons but will have to play at the Class 6A level starting in 2013.
