Titans: New Staff or No
Before the Tennessee Titans Wild Card playoff win over the Kansas City Chiefs many fans were calling for a coaching staff change, especially on the offensive side of the ball where play calling has suffered all season long. The bottom of the barrel season records that us fans have had to suffer through to earn top draft picks in players like Marcus Mariota, Derek Henry and Corey Davis is more than enough reason to demand that a coaching staff be put together that can maximize the talent on the field. The Titans never have had a young up and coming coach that brought excitement to the field, aside from Jeff Fishers first six seasons with the team starting in 1994. Everything is in place, we have a great GM in John Robison that is willing to think outside of the box with his management style. We have a young talented team geared towards a fast paced style of play. We have a bustling city that is willing to support a team that is putting a good product on the field, however we do not have a coaching staff to go along with any of it.
Playoff Magic or Another Year of Mediocrity
The Titans successful play off birth this year may end up being more of a curse than a blessing if the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl is not achieved. Mularkey and crew have earned themselves the consideration by ownership and management to let them stick around for another season by pulling off the upset over the Chiefs. In my opinion it is time to take a chance on an up and coming, young, fast paced coach. The Rams, oddly enough, under the direction of first year head coach Sean McVay are the perfect example. With practically the same team that Jeff Fisher put together in previous years McVay turned into a playoff contender for many years to come where as Fisher could only put together a 4-12 season. Who would or could take the place of Mularkey you ask?…I honestly don’t care until it’s time to start an official search but just to get our gears churning…how about Patriots OC Josh McDaniels???
