Ravenwood Raptors Capture Region 6-6A TSSAA Title with Dominant 21-3 Win Over Brentwood Bruins

In an intense showdown under the Friday night lights, the Ravenwood Raptors emerged victorious over the Brentwood Bruins with a decisive 21-3 scoreline, clinching the Region 6-6A TSSAA Championship title. The win not only marks a significant achievement for the Raptors but also highlights their grit, skill, and determination throughout the season as they continue their journey toward a potential state championship.

First Half: Raptors Set the Tone

The Bruins opened strong, on the opening drive of the game eating up 8 minutes of game clock ion the process. Their march deep into the redzone was very impressive, but proved to be all we would write for the Bruins on the night. The drive stalled with a Ravenwood defensive stance that resulted in a field goal for the Bruins.

Ravenwood reach the end zone on their ensuing drive with a touchdown on a beautifully orchestrated drive by QB Maverick Chance completing a 55 yard touchdown pass to Auburn commit Donovan Starr. This early score put the Bruins on their heels and energized the Raptors’ loyal fans in attendance. The Raptors added a second touchdown shortly afterward with “Co-QB” Femi Babalola showing off his arm strength on a 45 yard TD completion to Max Kimpel, stretching their lead to 14-3 by halftime and leaving Brentwood struggling to find answers.

Second Half: Ravenwood’s Defense Takes Control

After halftime, Brentwood’s defense made a few adjustments up front leading to several QB pressures and sacks, but Ravenwood’s defensive unit also proved impenetrable themselves, swarming to the ball with precision. The Bruins’ passing game was neutralized,  under the constant pressure from the Raptors’ defensive backs. Two key interceptions in the 4th quarter held Brentwood stagnant and out of the endzone.

Looking Ahead

With the Region 6-6A title secured, Ravenwood moves forward in the TSSAA playoffs with momentum on their side. The win positions them as a formidable contender in the state bracket, with fans eagerly anticipating what they’ll achieve next. We mentioned on X last night during the game that this 2024 Ravenwood team reminded us very much so of the 2014-2015 Will Hester lead teams that finished state runner up and state champs. All comes to fruition as brothers and key components of those teams Chris and Seth Rowland join their former coach in leading this team to another potential TSSAA State Title. All felt very familiar to us seeing Super Bowl Champ and former Raptors wide receiver Van Jefferson in attendance supporting his former team and teammates. I opened up the D1 Highlights archive while standing there with them to show them some photos from those years! The smiles said it all…nostalgia at its best…2014 to now 2024. Good Luck Ravenwood.
