HSSC: How long have you been playing football?
PW: I have played football since 2nd grade where I started out in the Cornersville Youth Football league
HSSC: Do you play any other sports?
PW: Football is the only sport I play. I tried baseball and soccer; I just love the pace of the game and the contact in football.
HSSC: What do you feel you bring to the game of football?
PW: I have been told I lead by example. I just play the game the way it is supposed to be played. I don’t get too hyped or too low. I move on to the next play. I work hard on the field and the weight room, I guess it motivates my teammates also. Coach Pitts has me working with the seniors right now on the weights. I pay attention to the little details. If I do a drill we have done a million times, I still want to do it right every time.
HSSC: What do you need to work on to get better?
PW: Grades first, I should finish this year with a 3.1. My goal is to bring that up each year. In football, I need to adjust to high school competition. The speed of the game is quicker. I think I have got it down. We will see this spring.
HSSC: Who is your favorite player?
PW: Tim Tebow
HSSC: Why?
PW: When I was young, I watched “The Chosen One” on ESPN with my dad. That is when I realized being a good person and out working everyone was the way to go. I asked my dad to make some workout equipment, so he hooked a chain to a truck tire and I started there.
HSSC: What are your team goals this coming season?
PW: I want to help my team get back to the play-offs. As long as we play as a team, I think we will be fine.
HSSC: What are your individual goals this coming season?
PW: I don’t really have set goals. I just want to play the best I can each game. I have been told that I am starting RB, so I need to have a big year there for my team. At LB, I want to play smart and physical.
HSSC: What is your most memorable game?
PW: Probably beating David Lipscomb in Middle School my 8th grade year..It was the first time in LMS history that had happened and it was at Liscomb on their homecoming, so that was pretty sweet.
Playing at Chase Field(AZ) at the Juniorrank game was a great experience and getting to play on Carson-Newman’s turf was awesome in the 7th grade with the TN Future Stars team.
HSSC: What are your future plans?
PW: To stay healthy, learn as much as I can about the game and win a scholarship to play college football.
HSSC: Are you going to attend any camps or combines this year?
PW: I am training with my dad this season. I was invited to the Army All-American combine, but I want to wait one more year. I need to get some good highlights on film and work on my vertical. I found out you need to train for those events. I would rather show up later than have a bad showing.
HSSC: Who are the schools that interest you?
PW: Tennessee is #1 on my list. Ole Miss, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi State all interest me. I have my first unofficial visit at Tennessee coming up April 20th. I look forward to seeing the Byrum family there.

HSSC: Who are the schools that are showing you the most interest?
PW: I have gotten mail from Arkansas, Florida State, Miss. State, Louisville, North Carolina and others.
HSSC: When not playing football or training, what do you like to do in spare time?
PW: I am an outdoors person. Fishing, hunting, and sitting around a camp fire listening to stories is pretty much is it.
HSSC: Is there any coach, role model, parent, etc. who have contributed to your success?
PW: My dad got me started. He taught me the basics early on and taught me work ethic. I had great coaches in youth. My middle school coach Jeff Morton has been a huge influence on me. Coach Tom Turchetta was my coach for a while. I really liked him. Coach Pitts and I have formed a bond, I am glad he is here at MCHS. I have been lucky.
