KY vs. TN / Hopkinsville vs. Pearl Cohn
Last month Defensive Coordinator Dustin Lopez from Hopkinsville High School in Kentucky set social media a blaze announcing the principle of agreement between middle Tennessee powerhouse Pearl Cohn Firebirds traveling to Austin Peay State University to play Hopkinsville High School. The game being played on the campus of Austin Peay Fortera Stadium is being billed as the Border War between obviously Tennessee and Kentucky. The Class 3A TSSAA resentative Pearl Cohn Firebirds will play against Kentucky 4A KHSAA representative Hopkinsville Tigers. The Tigers past three seasons resulted in two winning seasons and a subpar season under a new coaching staff. The Firebirds of Nashville past few seasons have been nothing short of spectacular. Just a few years removed from a state championship bid and loss the Firebirds will be looking forward to another trip to Cookeville soon.
Pending contracts and agreements to be worked out, this border war game could be just a preview of what Tennessee High School football and Kentucky High School football can be when programs work together to place top-tier programs and players to compete against each other. This game is definitely a no-brainer for both schools in regards to competition, economical impact for Austin Peay, the kids, the memories and the opportunity of playing this awesome game.
