Metro Schools return to prominence!

by. Evan Butler – D1Highlights

Just two short seasons ago most metro schools finished with a losing record. Many of the programs suffered from the lack of enrollment due to the growth of Nashville’s suburban areas and private schools. Programs that had seen several playoff visits in a row and even a few state titles were all of a sudden irrelevant in the prep football discussion. That has all changed over the past two seasons, just last year while watching the amazing season that Overton had, we here at D1Highlights were discussing how long it would take before the other metro teams followed suit. Little did we know that it would be so soon. Hillsboro has been the front running metro school for the past two years. Even though they finished 6-6 last season, they capped it off with a run into the 5A playoffs second round. This season along with the the Burros, Pearl Cohn, McGavock and East Nashville have all gone undefeated in their first four games. We have had the chance to visit with Hillsboro and East Nashville on several occasions, and can see the leadership in not only the coaching staffs but in the players as well. There is a huge sense of pride about playing for a high school team that can only come from the people that are currently there putting in the long days and hard work, and we can finally see that hard work paying off for the Metro Davidson Co, schools.

After week 3:

  • Hillsboro Burros 4-0
  • McGavock Raiders 4-0
  • Pearl Cohn Firebirds 3-1
  • East Nashville Eagles 4-0
  • Can Ridge Ravens 2-1
