Just like that, Javin Burke, a highly recruited quarterback and defensive back from Bradley Central in Cleveland, Tennessee will be taking his talents to University of Virginia Cavaliers.
The 6’1, 200lbs, future Cavalier had an amazing junior season where he put up over 600 rushing yards and threw for over 1900 yards. This was the start for Burke as he exploded on the scene this past off-season at the J3M Training tryouts, turning heads from local media and other coaches in attendance with his raw talent and pure athletic ability.
He arrived at his decision to choose Virginia over other schools like Mississippi State, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Indiana, South Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, and many others based on the relationship they had built with Burke and his parents. Back on January 23, 2020 the Cavaliers pulled the trigger on offering Burke, From that point on it was constant communication between the coaching staff and the Burke family.
Javin, who enjoyed the entire recruiting process mentioned to us that he felt like it was very eventful considering jumping on the scene late. Once his name was in the football circles across the country, schools started rolling in by the bunches. Concluding it with the verbal commitment this morning to Virginia.
The next level for Javin will be a bit of a transitional period that he plans on embracing. They are anticipating him playing the free and strong safety positions in addition to cornerback, allowing him to use his skill set to their advantage. Coach Howell Was his main recruiter that spoke to Burke in regards to his recruitment. Howell was in constant contact with Javin rather texting or calling up to 2-3 times a day often leading up to todays decision.
We mentioned earlier above about the J3M Training Tryouts back in December and how he showcased himself then. Moving forward Burke has been working out religiously with Shawn Banks and his coaching staff improving in different aspects of his game on and off the field. Burke credits J3M and is grateful for them assisting him in his development.
When asked why commit to Virginia now instead of waiting later in the year or first of next year, Burke said. “There is no other place I’d rather be, I feel like it’s the right place for me and it will be my next home”! With that being said, we are excited to see Javin Burke over the course of this upcoming season and his next few years in Charlottesville. Continue to be a #d1highlight!
