Franklin kept its unbeaten boys soccer season going with a 2-0 win over Ravenwood Thursday in the Region 6-AAA championship.
Franklin (14-0-2) dominated the flow of the game with a swift, aggressive and relentless offense.
“I was really impressed,” Franklin coach Mike Burgoyne said. “We created good chances in the attacking, and the defense was solid and they didn’t allow much for Ravenwood to do as far as attacking.”
The Rebels will host Hendersonville, a 2-1 loser on penalty kicks to Mt. Juliet, on Saturday in a Class AAA sectional. Ravenwood (6-3-4) will visit Mt. Juliet. The winners advance to next week’s Spring Fling.
It will be Franklin’s first sectional appearance since 2004. Ravenwood will make its third straight sectional appearance.
Franklin beat Ravenwood 3-0 during the regular season and 1-0 during the District 11-AAA tournament.
“Give credit to Franklin,” Ravenwood coach Jose Londono said. “They are a real talented group. If you relax once, it’s one goal, and if you relax twice, it’s two goals.”
Franklin midfielder Jimmy Wester scored with 11:32 left in the first half.
Forward Matt Brady scored Franklin’s second goal with 34:36 left in the second half on a rebound from his own shot.
