We wanted to give our followers some good advice on what to expect and how to use exposure camps to your benefit. Every year off-season activities for high school football players grow more rapidly. This does not seem to be a dying trend but rather a useful tool that players and parents can use to make connections with and learn more about college coaches and their programs. Though we must clarify that exposure camps and off-season football activities are only the beginning to earning yourself a collegiate athletic scholarship. GRADES are and will always remain #1 in conjunction with your performance on the field, under the Friday night lights! With that said, do not be discouraged if your phone or DM isn’t ringing off the hook with college recruiters making you offers after the completion of a camp that you attended.
University hosted camps in our mind is something that every player should have on their calendars. You know which universities that you’d like to play for therefore you need to start looking for every opportunity to get around their coaches and facilities. Like I have mentioned on our D1Highlights podcast, you are a product, an asset for any given program, therefore, you need to market your worth and everything that comes along with you.
Attending private camps held by privately ran organizations such as On Top Athletics here in the mid-state is a great way to get in front of numerous recruiters at once! Each year OTA holds its exposure camp for all to attend. On average there are 40 – 50 college representatives on hand to see the attendees run through offensive and defensive drills. Think of camps as combines for high schoolers.
Have your parents or guardian attend camps with you. Though some of you may not believe it…but, your parents know you best and have your best interest at heart. In most cases, they are able to speak on your behalf better than you are. It is also a good idea to have your parents on hand to help document the experience for you via photo and video so that you may share it on your social media platforms.
