Cookeville Cavaliers Steam Roll Lebanon Blue Devils 69-6
D1Highlights traveled up Interstate 40 East to Putnam County to see 5-0, now 6-0 Cookeville Cavaliers host 0-5 Lebanon Blue Devils in a Cavalier beat down. The Cavaliers jumped on the Blue Devils fast and early in the first quarter opening up a 20-6 lead and did not lead back throughout the game. Lebanon was at the game, but hardly showed up to tangle with junior sensations Vic Johnson and Gabe Angel. These two young men playing tight end (Angel) and running back (Johnson) have one of the most potent offenses in middle Tennessee and it was on display tonight. Going into the half the Cavaliers were up 62-6 behind several Cookeville explosions starting with Gabe Angel’s 33yd rushing touchdown. The next drive Lebanon quarterback threw a perfect pass to Cookeville for a pick 6 down the sideline for the touchdown. On the bright side Lebanon relied in big Taye Davis on the 80yd touchdown run for their only points in the game before having to exit due to a minor head injury. After the touchdown run by Davis, Cookeville’s junior human highlight reel Vic Johnson running back answered back with a 38yd rushing touchdown of his own putting Cookeville up 20-6. This was just the beginning for the Cookeville offense after the Johnson run the Caveliers put up 49 more unanswered points to close the game out at 69-6. Cookeville will travel up to Rhea County next week for a 3A undefeated showdown between two really good undefeated teams. The winner of this game may potentially be one of the teams expected to make a deep run into the playoffs in late November.
In closing Cookeville Cavaliers look to be very dangerous team with the right amount of compliments to lead them to the promise land. In the 3A conference it will be hard to knock off the defending champions Alcoa, however Cookeville may have the right ingredients to take the reigns this season.
