BIG WIN FOR BIG RED

The MBA Big Red rolled to a 42-7 win Friday night over the Pope John Paul II Knights in Hendersonville. Led by Clint Blackwell’s 90 yards receiving and two touchdown catches, the offense looked in sync and put up 40+ points for the first time since the season’s second game against Pearl Cohn. Ty Allen threw for 175 yards on the night while junior running backs Sam Dugan and Brendan Harris combined for 139 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense forced two turnovers and the special teams was able to come up with a loose ball of their own. Junior defensive backs Cooper Maddox and Christian Schwartz picked off the Knight passes while senior defensive lineman Harrison Graves recovered a muffed punt of the Knights.
Looking ahead for the Big Red, MBA (6-0) has a short week this week with a Thursday night game in Memphis against the White Station Spartans. The Spartans (2-4) are coming off of a 45-17 win over Bartlett. Senior running back Greg Williams led White Station to victory with 379 yards and 6 touchdowns on 23 carries. In order for the Big Red to get to 7-0 for the second time in three seasons, the MBA defense must contain the speed of Williams and other Spartans.
After Thursday night’s matchup with White Station, a gauntlet of the state’s top teams awaits for MBA. Games against the Ensworth Tigers, Brentwood Academy Eagles, and Baylor Red Raiders finish out the regular season for the Big Red. MBA looks to get healthy and finish out the season strong in one of Tennessee’s toughest divisions, Division 2 – AAA.
