In a 3A matchup between Alcoa 14-1 versus Liberty Tech 12- 3 out of Jackson, Tennessee seemed to be pretty evenly matched in the first half. Alcoa jumped on the board late in the first quarter with a Malik Salter 2-yard touchdown run. Two minutes later offensive player of the game Colton Wright scored on a 21-yard scamper to go up 14-0. Liberty Tech’s only touchdown came at the 5:32 minute mark when Christian Ballard scored on a 32-yard rushing touchdown to pull within 8 to close out the first quarter.
Second quarter started with a Alcoa fieid goal to go up 17-6, then was quickly followed by a Liberty Tech touchdown run by Christian Ballard from one yard out to notch his second rushing touchdown of the first half.
Coming out of halftime the score was Alcoa 17 Liberty Tech 12. Coach Rankin made some huge offensive and defensive adjustments during intermission. Alcoa came out firing on all cylinders first with a 72 yard rushing touchdown from Colton Wright then to close out the third quarter Jaylen Myers scored from 6 yards out to go up 31-12 to close out the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter Alcoa had still held Liberty Tech’s offense to only 12 points that was only allowed in the first half. A minute and a half into the fourth Jaylen Myers connected with 3A Mr. Football Tykee Kellogg on a 70-yard bomb to extend the lead 38-12. After several Tech attempts they are unable to score before Alcoa went back on offense and scored again at the six minute mark with a two-yard run from Taylen McNear to extend the lead 45-12 to end the game with a 38-point burst. Alcoas Colin Wright one offensive player of the game behind his 161 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Terran Cox 1 defensive MVP behind his 9 tackles and one interception. Alcoa wrapped up this season in convincing fashion to obtain it’s back-to-back State title.
