Brentwood Academy Rolls MBA Big Red
This week we checked out the nationally ranked Brentwood Academy Eagles visit to take on the MBA Big Red. This has been our game of the week for week 10 since the beginning of the season. Both teams have D2 State Championship hopes, however this game would reveal each teams weak points going into the playoffs. Surely MBA has been thinking about this game since last December after they lost the Eagles 42-38 in the state title game for the second year in a row by a total of 3 point…for both games! The first thing that MBA has to do is get healthy and we believe that they will be 100% by time playoffs start. For this game starting tackle Palmer Thombs and starting cornerback Jake Herbstreit were amongst the key players for the Big Red that were out for this game.
MBA decided to test the BA linebacking core which was a big mistake in our eyes. Run…after run…after run resulted in FS Luke Knox (9) having an all-star caliber of a game with multiple gain stopping tackles. BA was able to stack the box and allow their defensive backs to play man coverage for most of the game. That is a huge compliment to the BA corners and safeties. MBA has a good receiving core and a very smart Quarterback in Ty Allen, this was just not their game to shine.
Something tells us that we didn’t get MBA’s all in this game other the the goose egg on the scoreboard. They simply could not get into a rhythm especially on the offensive side of the ball. We left the game saying that if MBA had another quarter to play in this game then maybe they could have made it interesting…maybe! But a Brentwood Academy team that seemed to make no mistakes in any phases of the game makes that highly unlikely. Is this going to be our 2017 D2 3A re-matchup in Cookeville?…all conventional knowledge tells us yes. However, another game like that from MBA against anyone would result in a NO. If we were to list all of the highlights and things right that BA did, this article would go on to be multiple more pages long! To cap it off lets just say that until some team finds a way to stop Cameron Johnson, Luke Knox, Mario Pleasant and Michael Archie, we expect to see them holding another gold ball trophy in Cookeville.
