Macon Co. eases through First Round

It was a game that had high exceptions for both sides as the number three seeded Macon County Tigers(8-2) came in to Clarksville to play the two seeded Northwest Vikings(6-4). Macon County brought their cheering section last night as they helped roar the Tigers to a 56-39 win over the sinking Vikings.

This was the first time in 7 years that Northwest advanced to the playoffs. Northwest last appearance was in 2009, losing to Gallatin 27-10. Macon County enters the playoffs this year after losing last time in 2014 to Loudon 50-7. Macon County supported their blue and white jerseys while Northwest supported their green and black jerseys.

It was the two headed monster of Macon County that was able to get by Northwest amassing for over 355 yards on the ground. Quarterback Seth Carlisle tucked it for 139 yards on 13 carries, while running back Michael Tirjan carried the ball 21 times for 219 yards combining for all the TD’s. Carlisle was able to throw 2 in the endzone to his receivers.

While Macon County had no problem on offense, neither did the Northwest Vikings as they overcome 230 passing yards and 215 rushing yards. However, two interceptions may have changed the game for the Vikings. Quarterback Hunter Silverstirm had some crucial running yards to help the offense stay on the field. It was before Silverstrim threw an interception to the hands of Michael Tirjan and the Tigers defense. Silverstrim left the game with an apparent shoulder injury. Standout receiver Shatar McClay finished the game with 143 yards and two TD’s on eight catches. Running back Eli Johnson ran for 102 yards on 20 carries and a TD.
