Springfield host Macon County in a pivotal 4A Region 5 matchup
We have been wanting to get up to Robertson County to check out the Springfield Yellow Jackets for quite some time. Tonight they hosted 4A Region 5 foe Macon County Tigers. Both teams desperately needed a win in this week 9 as the regular season concludes potentially for one of these teams next week. Both Macon County and Springfield come into tonight’s game riding high off of back-to-back wins the past 2 weeks.
Macon County jumped on the board first with a five yard rushing touchdown from Michael Tirjan. After a few plays, Springfield drove down the field and goes for a field goal to get on the board making it 7-3 Macon County. The Yellow Jackets and Tigers exchanged possessions several times before senior defensive back Tanner Cleary picked off Springfield quarterback Dwayne Buckner. Macon County had several opportunities to get on the board again after the interception and failed. On a huge fourth-and-one just before the half Springfield settled for a field goal attempt but misses leaving the score 7-3 going into the half.
Opening up the second half the Tigers knocked in a field goal to extend the lead to 10-3. It wasn’t until Alan Gardner scored late in the fourth quarter for the Yellow Jackets off of a 7yd rushing touchdown to pull within one point. Springfield decided to go for the win with a 2 point conversion that was no good.
Macon County got its 3rd win in a row and positions themselves to potentially make the playoffs if they win out and get a little help from region 5 teams.
