COFFEE COUNTY RAIDERS AT SMYRNA BULLDOGS
Welcome to the first Friday Night Lights in the month of September. We are looking forward to our game of the week between the 1-1 Coffee County Red Raiders vs the 2-0 Smyrna Bulldogs.
The Raiders coming off a last Friday loss at the hands of Pope John Paul II 54-30. In week one they went to Tullahoma and left with a 49-10 victory. The Bulldogs come into this week riding high off of their second win of the season, knocking off LaVergne in week one 38-20 and Stewarts Creek 65-20 in week two. Smyrna’s high-powered offense is driven by MTSU commit John Turner at the quarterback position. Not only Turner, the Bulldogs have a host of other weapons starting with Casey Perkins and Blake Watkins that can go both ways on each side of the ball and special teams. Watkins is an underclassmen who is making a name for himself as a shutdown defensive back. Looking at the rest of the defense of the Bulldogs, they are led by linebackers Deylon Williams and Nick Okeke that both flat out get after it.
Looking at the Coffee County Raiders they are led by quarterback and all everything Alontae Taylor. Lastweek Taylor put up 300+ all purpose yards. He will look to will his way against the stout Bulldog defense. Taylor while very talented can’t win this game alone and is going to need his Red Raider teammates to step up and assist in trying to knock off the Bulldogs. Last years thrashing by Smyrna 38-3 is just that… last year. Taylor with another year under his belt adding maturity, growth, and decision making can take over a game and keep his team in it potentially but its going to be hard. That’s why we play the game!
