Mt. Juliet had its hands full Friday night as they visited 6A No. 2 Blackman. The Bears suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the powerful Blaze team, 49-21. Blackman was able to dominate the first half, racing out to a 28-0 lead behind University of Tennessee commitment Quarterback Jauan Jennings. Jennings had a 59-yard touchdown pass and a 78-yard run for a touchdown in the first five minutes of play. The Blackman defense was also able to keep Mt. Juliet from passing the 50-yard line in the first half. The Bears came out still fighting in the second half, as they took the opening drive to the end zone. Mt. Juliet went 85 yards in seven plays, and it was capped off when Alex Landis got behind the defense and Nolan Chowbay lobbed it over the top for a 43-yard score. The strong Blackman offense kept churning as they built the lead back out to 49-7. Mt. Juliet was able to get two more scores in the final quarter as Chowbay threw two more touchdown passes, the first to Josh Williams, and the final one to Bryce Camacho. Chowbay finished the night 13-for-21 for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Mt. Juliet will be on the road again next week as they travel to rival Wilson Central. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday. |
