Haywood High School football coach Slade Calhoun has resigned effective immediately, according to Haywood Schools Associate Superintendent Art Garrett.
Coach Calhoun resigned this morning.
Calhoun coached the Tomcats for the last two years, with a record of 4-16, after coming over from Brighton High School as the defensive coordinator.
Garrett said the system will act as fast as possible on naming a new coach and other coaches and school employees will oversee summer workouts until next the coach is named.
“We don’t see this as a roadblock but we see it as a change in direction for the program,” Garrett said. “Tomcat football will survive.”
Efforts to reach Calhoun have been unsuccessful so far.
