LEBANON — Baseball coach Brian Black and softball coach April Harris stepped down Friday from their respective positions at Lebanon High.
Black just completed his second season as head coach of the Blue Devils and saw his team finish the 2013 campaign 8-22 overall.
A native of the Chicago suburb of New Lenox, Illinois, LHS went 3-22 in 2012. A special education teacher, Black also resigned his faculty position.
“I feel like I gave everything I had over the past two years to this program, and we made some real progress in the areas of character and responsibility,” Black said. “We finished up the season playing our best baseball. I hope that foundation will carry over for these guys in the future.”
“We appreciate Brian’s hard work during the transition to our new campus, the work he and the baseball parents put into Brent Foster Field and the locker room,” said LHS athletic director Darian Brown, “we wish him nothing but the best.”
Harris was recently named the District 9AAA Coach of the year after leading her Lady Devils to a record of 21-15 in 2013 and a deep run in the district tournament in her second season since taking over for Brad Rowlett.
A native of Lawrenceburg, she played college softball at Cumberland Univeristy and is a special education case manager at Lebanon High School.
“April told me she has some family responsibilities that will be taking up a lot of her time,” Brown said, “we certainly understand and support her. This was a difficult decision for her.”
Harris will remain on the Lebanon High faculty.
Brown indicated he would be posting the vacancies on the TSSAA web site Tuesday, with hopes of filling the positions as soon as possible.
