Mike Woodward knows what it takes to win football games in Williamson County having been a coach on Ravenwood’s Class 5A state title team back in 2005.
Now he ready to win another title this time at Brentwood High as he has been named the Bruins new football coach.
He replaces Mark Pemberton who earlier in the month left for Rhea County after posting an 11-2 record in his only year at Brentwood.
“I had seven great years at Antioch,” Woodward said. “But Brentwood’s tradition made the job very appealing to me.”
“Their administration and the community as a whole really gets behind all their sports program and that was a huge plus for me
The Bruins have made the playoffs 16 consecutive seasons.
Woodward was 38-39 in the last seven seasons at Antioch’s head coach.
The Bears made big strides under Woodward making the playoffs five times in his tenure there.
Antioch is coming off a 6-5 season after losing to Hillsboro in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
“We are excited about our hire with Coach Woodward, his ability to evaluate players and put them in a position to be successful is proven,” Brentwood Athletic Director Ronnie Seigenthaler said. “He’s very knowledgeable on both sides of the ball and we think great things are coming for Brentwood football.”
Woodward started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Austin Peay before going to another Williamson County school in Centennial where he served as Offensive Coordinator from 1999 to 2001.
He then went to Ravenwood in 2002 and was the Offensive Coordinator for the Raptors when they won the 2005 5A state title.
