Republic High School has only been in existence for 3 years, and the football team coming up on two. Even though the Trailblazers ended up winless in their first year of the football program they still played their tails off. They played hard all season, there was no quit in this team. Now as we come upon a new season it’s time to wipe the slate clean. Zero losses zero wins.
Republic brings back Larry Gillespie who was their leading rusher last season out of the backfield. Gillespie also lead the team in all purpose yards and tackles from the linebacker position.
Samari Garcia returns as the teams leading receiver and doubles as a quality defensive back.
Jauvon Young at the linebacker position averaged 8.3 tackles a game and has a real nose for the ball. All are going into their senior year so expect big steps forward for this program and these players in the upcoming season. We’ll definitely keep my eye on this team and continue to watch the development of the players and program as the season begins.
Since this article was first published in our May edition of D1 Highlights the Magazine we have learned that Republic has hired former Whites Creek and Rossview Head Coach Ron Lambert. Best of luck in 2018 Republic!
