Nyles is one of those players that is flying under the radar but in all reality should not be. In today’s world of recruiting huge numbers and media exposure are a must if you expect someone from the big five conferences to come calling. Unfortunately the formula is not guaranteed to find every player that can hang with the competition in those conferences. That’s were we come in to play in order to give some credit were credit is due, Nyles has the height, weight and speed to be a very productive addition to some ones team at the next level however in our experience defensive ends do not always get the fame and glory that goes along with big stats.
In Nyles’ Senior season he produced 38 solo tackles, 6 for a loss, 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. The stat line doesn’t exactly jump off of the page if you’re a recruiter but what it should do is lead you to look further into a team that was very productive on the defensive side of the ball. “Contain” you are told if you are a defensive end at most levels, “don’t let them get outside leverage on you”, the linebackers will clean up the mess if you do your job correctly. The Fighting Irish under Head Coach Rector is definitely team oriented and Nyles is a part of that defensive team that held opposing offenses to a low that propelled the Irish into the second round of the TSSAA playoffs.
Nyles has a variety of several offers from Tennessee State University, Dayton, Centre College, Merrimack, Western Kentucky University and Rhodes but has deep down inside been waiting to hear from the University of Knoxville and Coach Pruitt where he is being recruited as an outside linebacker. Expect to see Nyles in Knoxville come this fall.
David, who played opposite side of Nyles, is a 2019 prospect that we encourage recruiters to notice and study now before the band wagoning begins. David stand 6’3″ and can play both sides of the ball. His biggest impact will be felt at defensive end amidst the absence of his other bookend once Nyles moves on to college.
In David’s 2017 Junior season he had 40 solo tackles and 7 sacks. We will emphasize again, that if you are looking for team players for your college roster then David like Nyles is another individual that plays the team game well. Though we so hope to see some outstanding individual stats this coming season from him so that he will draw the attention that is well deserved from his efforts.
David does not have any official offers as of yet and that is the main reason we classify him as flying under the radar! He wants to see his team at the big dance in Cookeville for 2018 before he graduates and turns his attention to college. This Father Ryan team definitely has the leadership to get there but as usual in D2 3A they will have to string together some remarkable wins past teams like Brentwood Academy, Ensworth and Montgomery Bell Academy.
