Cane Ridge Ravens
The Ravens from Cane Ridge have had a great season so far. They have simply dominated every game but one putting them at 7-1 one the season and 1st place in their district. The only loss they had was versus a very good Brentwood High School team sitting in 1st place in 6A Region 8. The offense is led by star Wide Receiver/ Free Safety Jarad McCray. Jarad leads the team in interceptions. and has posted tremendous numbers this season with 41 receptions for 700 yards and 8 touchdowns. Another great piece to this offensive is Junior Devon Starling. Devon looked unstoppable rushing for 1200 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Ravens are so good because of their defense and it is led by Senior Middle Linebacker Jahsun Bryant who has been incredible with over 60 tackles. The Linemen that lead this team are Senior Center/Defensive Tackle Desmond Goodloe and Junior Defensive Tackle Joey Kabelu. This team has everything It takes to win it all!
Maplewood Panthers
The Maplewood Panthers have been one of the most surprising teams this year. The panthers are 5-3 this season and 2-1 in their district. They had a good scare and wake-up call versus the John Overton Bobcats, a game that they barely won 15-14. The Panthers offense is led by Senior Quarterback Bobo Hodges. Bobo has had a great season throwing for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns. Bobo is also the team’s leading rusher with 476 yards and 7 touchdowns. One of his favorite targets to throw to is Junior wide receiver Makell Smith. He is the team’s most productive receiver with 620 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Panthers defense is led by senior linebacker Malachi French leading the team with 74 tackles and 54 solo tackles. Malachi also leads the team in interceptions. The Linemen that leads the Panthers is Senior Offensive/Defensive linemen Spencer Graves. Maplewood Panthers have a chip on their shoulder and ready to upset some teams in the playoffs.
McGavock Raiders
No one expected the McGavock Raiders to have this good of a season except for the McGavock Raiders. The Raiders are 5-3 and 3-1 in the region. The Raiders have one of the most explosive backs in the state in Junior RB Tamicus Napier. Napier has over 1,600 yards rushing and over 20 touchdowns on the year. The Raiders are riding Tamicus into the playoffs and hopefully all the way to Cookeville. They run a great read option game lead Junior QB Harley Neal. One of their best linemen is Junior defensive tackle Devan Turner which leads the team in sacks. Linebacker Lamar Childress leads the Raiders in tackles and interceptions. Keep an eye out for the Raiders in the playoffs because anything can happen in the playoffs!
Hillsboro Burros
The Hillsboro Burros are one of the most talented metro teams getting better as the season progresses. The Burros are very good on both sides of the ball. Many expected their to be way better with the amount of talent they have, but this season may be the wake-up call they needed going into the play-offs. The Burros are 4-4 and 1-2 in their district. The offense of the Burros is led by Senior running back Jacob Frazier. Jacob has 1,500 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns. He has been carrying the Hillsboro offense this season. Another great offensive player is wide receiver Tre Dickerson with 264 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. The player who leads the Burros in tackling is Senior strong safety Tyler Neal with 37 total tackles. The Burros have one of the best defensive linemen in the state with D1 prospect Joesph Honeysucker who leads the Burros in sacks. The Burros can make a great run in the playoffs if they sync together and play as a team.
Pearl-Cohn Firebirds
Pearl-Cohn Firebirds in my opinion are the best team in Metro and maybe even in state. The Firebirds aren’t missing anything. They have more than enough talent to win the Championship. They are 7-2 and 3-0 in their district. Pearl Cohn has an electrifying offense and a big piece of that offense is Junior running back Marion Liggett. Marion Liggett has 600 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns. Another great piece is Senior slotback Jay Parker and he has over 1,000 all purpose yards rushing and receiving with 10 touchdowns. The Firebirds defense is led by one of the best linebackers in Metro, Senior David Anderson, leads the team in tackling with 87 total tackles. One of the best linemen on the Firebirds is Senior defensive tackle Chandon Page who leads the team in sacks. The Pear-Cohn Firebirds are my pick to win it all because they are just too good all around.
