50th Anniversary Metro Jamboree
High school football has kicked off with the Metro Nashville 50th Anniversary Jamboree. Last night we saw the Cane Ridge Ravens play the Stratford Spartans and the Antioch Bears host Hillwood. The metro jamboree allows some of the brightest and best athletes and coaches across the city to compete against each other and allow programs to gauge what they need to work on over the course of the next few days before kicking off for all the regular season on the 17th of August.
We had a chance to look in on the first four teams on Thursday night and was very impressed with the 6A state runners-up Cane Ridge Ravens as they came out a bit slow but turned it on deeper into the first quarter. Strafford came out swinging and looked very explosive offensively led by running back Jamie Moore. Moore had two turnovers that completely changed the momentum for the Spartans and allowed Cane Ridge to capitalize instantly with a 62-yard touchdown pass from Korey Andrews to Devon Starling. Shortly after a few defensive plays, the Ravens received the ball back and again scored on a dart of a pass from Andrews to Starling again for 28 yards. The Ravens eventually flexed their muscle on the Spartans and took control throughout the rest of the scrimmage. We caught up with Head Coach Eddie Woods after the game, he said that he is excited about his team this season having an opportunity to get back to Cookeville later this fall. This season for him has been a little different in regards to getting his team scrimmages, reps and real-time experience for his starters as well as hsecond-teameam players. Senior offensive lineman Devin Turner who had himself a great game opening up holes for his backs and protecting his QB’s said that this year’s offense of line is much bigger than last year and they expect to dominate the line of scrimmage this season. Cane Ridge will host Marshall County week one on the 17th of August.
