2015 Mid Season Report
As we roll into week 5 coming up this Friday we’ve noticed a few different changes this season opposed to last. Some of the top teams coming out of metro city Nashville like Overton Bobcats that holds an impressive 4-1 record with wins against a very good Marshall County team, Franklin, Antioch, and Lipscomb Academy. While other perennial power house teams like Pearl Cohn (2-3), Hillsboro (3-2), and Stratford (4-1) look to improve this week. McGavock Raiders can make a name for themselves this Friday if they can knockoff Overton at the Bobcats field. The Raiders would also look good with a win against their 6A Region 3 counterpart, and a win against a Ravenwood team that goes on a bye this week as they prepare for potential first place positioning the following week.
Moving towards the Williamson County area we have undefeated Independence that has a firm grip at 5-0 that looks to be on a collision course with 5A Region 5 foe Shelbyville October 9th. Centennial Cougars holding a 4-1 record with the only defeat coming to the hands of 49-6 score by Independence earlier in the season. While Brentwood’s overall record is sub-par currently they are still in the thick of things with a 2-0 record in the 5A Region 7 bracket. Ravenwood who lost several top tier players that are now playing on Saturdays seemed like they just reloaded as they hold a 4-1 record in 6A Region 3 with their only loss to Centennial. While notching wins versus Siegel, Brentwood, Mount Juliet, and Franklin.
Rutherford County that seems to always have several teams coming out of that area with potential runs at state especially now with the mix-up of the divisions, however if early season tells it we have a few that look to be on the cusp of making some noise. Smyrna (4-1), Oakland (3-1), Blackman (3-2) and Riverdale (3-2) all look poised to beat up on each other in a very strong 6A Region 2 division that both Smyrna, Cookeville, and Oakland all have 2-0 records in the division and the top team is up for grabs going into week 5. Smyrna’s only defeat came by the hands of yet again undefeated Independence Eagles by the score of 21-7 a few weeks ago. Looking at this division as we stand right now Putnam County powerhouse Cookeville Cavs that lead the division 5-0 looks to be the contender to come out of this region.
Let’s take a look at Sumner County football, teams like 5A Region 6 leader Gallatin (4-1) leads this division with other teams like Hendersonville (4-1) and Beech (3-2) slightly behind them while Station Camp (1-4) tries to claw their way back into the region. It’s only week 5 but looking at the rest of the season and schedules the Commandoes, Buccaneers, and the Green Wave look to be some potential powerhouses going throughout the rest of the season with Gallatin and Hendersonville playing October 9th for potential lead in this competitive region. In saying that don’t count out Metro’s Hillsboro that is also in this division and looking at their schedule should run the table on the rest of their season making that October 23rd and October 30th games being vital for the Buro’s to be the top team. As far as Sumner County teams, as mentioned earlier the winner of the Commandoes versus the Green Wave will have bragging rights for that county.
Looking at the private schools at the halfway point so far this season we have several teams that look good out of the middle Tennessee area. Battle Ground Academy (5-0), Ezell Harding (4-2), Franklin Road Academy (5-0), Donelson Christian Academy (4-1), Davidson Academy (4-1), Montgomery Bell Academy (5-0), and Brentwood Academy (4-1) just to name a few are some schools that look to be potentially playing late into November. We had an opportunity so far to only watch DCA this season but are looking forward to seeing Franklin Road Academy versus Friendship this Friday. We covered FRA last fall and had an opportunity to see them up close and personal, with several of their players and coaches. It’s no surprise to us their mid-season success.
Let’s get ready for some football this Friday, and continue to follow us on twitter @d1highlights and periscope @d1highlights!
